The money lane
Pay less for college. Without going broke.
Most families overpay because nobody told them about the auto-merit grid at Alabama, the appeal letter that gets a second look, the merit-sweet-spot school where their kid's stats are in the top 25%, or the reciprocity program that wipes out the OOS surcharge. These tools are all here. All free.
The four moves most families miss
Auto-Merit Grids
Schools that publish exactly what GPA + test scores trigger automatic merit aid. Often turns a $60k sticker into a $25k net with no separate application.
Most underused tool on the site
Aid Appeal Letter Coach
About 75% of well-written aid appeals get more money — most families never appeal because nobody told them they could. Templates + walkthrough.

Honest tradeoff math
Save $15-30k/yrIn-State Tuition Tricks
Reciprocity programs (WUE, SREB, MSEP, NEBHE), residency reclassification rules state-by-state, border-county exemptions, OOS waivers. The wins families never hear about.

And the essentials
FAFSA Guide
Step-by-step walkthrough including divorced parents, deceased parent, business owner, no-SSN situations.
Scholarships
Federal, state, local, activity-based, and the auto-merit awards most families miss. Filterable.
State Aid Guides
What your state actually offers — most states have $1k-$10k/year aid programs that the FAFSA doesn't surface.
Net Price Estimator
Sticker price vs net price after aid for any school. The number that actually matters when you're comparing.
Financial Aid Calculator
Estimate your Expected Family Contribution and a realistic aid range before you apply anywhere.
The honest framing
The college pricing system is designed to be confusing on purpose. Sticker prices have almost nothing to do with what families actually pay. A $90k/year private with great need-based aid can cost less than your in-state public. An OOS public with an auto-merit grid can cost less than your in-state public too. The only number that matters is net price for YOUR family, at THIS specific school.
These tools exist to help you find that number for as many schools as possible before you commit somewhere.
